first of all, YEEEES.
second of all, holy. crap!
third of all, is anyone even remotely surprised that jack white is ripping music a new one
with his first solo album...? i seriously doubt it.
blunderbuss is all i dreamed of, hoped for, and more. it's on jack's own label, third man records, out of nashville, tn. this is track 8, "i'm shakin," which is a little willie john cover, from 1960. go ahead, turn up the volume, and hit play. i dare you not to dance. it's so dang catchy, and MAN, i've missed jack's voice and that guitar! the running theme of the album is a little darker though, (which you totally don't at all get from the album cover... i mean, it's not like the man has a VULTURE perched on his shoulder or anything.) because apparently it's about his divorce. (not from meg, he had re-married more recently.) so, kind of a break-up album of sorts. and even though he didn't actually write it, this song goes right along with that theme; one of the verses goes,
"well samson was a mighty good man
strongest in his day
then along came delilah and clipped his wig
and it looks like you took me the same old way
so i'm nervous
oh and i'm shakin'
alright, you got me nervous
yeah i'm shakin' and jumpin'"
allusion to samson and delilah...? not typically a compliment. but hey, jack's workin' it out, doin' it the way he does it. we're here for you, jack! i sure miss seeing him in red, black and white, but, you know, i think the blue looks really great on him, too. he's also set to write, produce and perform the score for the lone ranger, due out next year. (johnny depp is playing tonto! it's gonna be so awesome and-hopefully-not-at-all-offensive!)
blunderbuss is available to listen to on spotify. check it out!
